Fuad Shahbazov is a Baku-based policy analyst focusing on regional security, defence, and energy diplomacy issues. He frequently provides the local and international media with analytical insights regarding the major developments in the post-Soviet region and beyond. Also, Fuad regularly takes part in different conferences and roundtable meetings abroad to conduct presentations and lectures. He mostly covers the South Caucasus region, China-BRI, Turkey, and Iran.

Between 2012-2013 he was a Junior Advisor at the Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD), a Baku-based research organization. In 2015, he became a Research Assistant at the European Policy Center (EPC) in Brussels, Belgium. From 2016 to 2018, Fuad worked as a Research Fellow at the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM). In 2018, Fuad was a Visiting Scholar at the Daniel Morgan School of National Security (Prevention of Violence Program) in Washington, D.C. From 2018 to 2021, he held a Senior Analyst position at the Center for Strategic Communications in Baku.

Currently, he is working as a Geopolitical Risk Analyst at a private company based in Baku.

Fuad got his bachelor’s degree (BA) in International Relations from Baku Slavonic University and obtained his first master’s degree (MA) in Politics at the University of VD (2016);  Executive Master’s degree in Terrorism, Prevention, and Counter-Radicalization at the University of Bergamo (2021); and master of science (MSc) degree in Defense and Development at the University of Durham (2022).
